The Mother Behind The Mask
Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Asia Razaq and I am a single mother of two boys. Raihan (11) and Azaan (6).
Why have I set up this website?
Well, its a pretty lonely journey being a mother right? Let alone being a mother to a child who you are the primary carer for. A child who is dependent on you to …well…basically live. I have set up this website to blog my journey in bringing up my little prince, to spread awareness and make other parent carers feel less alone. My son Azaan wouldn’t live without all I do for him. Connecting him on his dialysis every night, maintaining his catheter, feeding him via his peg, administering his injections and other medications, and basically his overall personal care which he cannot do himself. So, whats my background? Before I had Azaan I was a workaholic. I was a primary school teacher, a job I loved! My degree was in Deaf Education and I went on to do my PGCE to qualify as a teacher. I would also privately tutor other children after teaching all day at school, volunteer at youth clubs and work for charities providing respite for families of children with disabilities. Life has changed a lot to say the least! You can find out more about my life through blogs I post under the home page 🙂
Who is Azaan?
My little prince! Azaan is a little cheeky one! He knows exactly how to get his own way! Azaans favourite things are swimming, bouncing and music! A big Bollywood (that’s my doing!) and a one direction fan. Azaan was born with a neurological condition leaving him blind and non-verbal. It has robbed him from the ability to eat orally, walk, sit or get up. This life-threatening condition called Jouberts Syndrome is now beginning to affect his respiratory system and he is already in kidney failure. He is on peritoneal dialysis every night which I was trained to set up and connect him to at night. Azaan needs EPO injections to help his bone marrow produce red blood cells fortnightly and venofer infusions at the hospital every month to keep on top of his renal anaemia. Azaans health deteriorates very quick and becomes life threatening. He spends a lot of time in hospital admissions. He has had around 35 hosptial admissions to date. Azaan is a little fighter and amazes me how he pulls through each battle. Follow his story on his instagram account to see regular updates!
